Week 2 Assignment 5

Week 2 Assignment 5

Q Directions: By now, you should have access to your book choice for our class (Let's Discuss: Book Choices). This week I want to you to get comfortable with the text and put a plan together for how you are going to tackle the reading. Also, of note, all assignments concerning your book choice are part of the Portfolio Project category in grades. Step 1: Take a look at how many chapters or how long your chosen text is. You will need to have completed your reading choice by the end of Week 9, which gives you seven weeks from today to finish your novel. For this part of the assignment, please submit a reading schedule which breaks down how many pages, chapters, or how much time (if your primary source is the audiobook) you plan to cover each week. You can be as creative as you want in making this reading schedule as long as you list Weeks 3-9 and what you will cover during that week. At the end of these weeks, you will be filling out an annotation worksheet for that section of your book. If you want to create a fancy looking reading plan, CanvaLinks to an external site. is a great tool or you can just create a table in Google Docs or Word. Alternatively, you can create a physical reading plan in a notebook or on a whiteboard, and then upload pictures to this assignment. For those of you who have already started reading your book, you can start your schedule with the chapter you are currently on, but I will expect the first annotation you submit to include information from the first chapter until where you are at currently. The Most Simple Example/Sample Reading Schedule Week 3: Chapters 1 & 2 Week 4: Chapters 3-6 or Week 3: 1 hour Week 5: 4 1/2 hours I have also created some templates for you to use if you wish--please feel free to steal these to use for your schedule if you don't want to create your own. Template 1Links to an external site., Template 2Links to an external site., Template 3Links to an external site., Template 4Links to an external site., & Template 5Links to an external site. (All of these are Google.) You can also if you wish build in a grace week to your plan. Step 2: To support what you know about the importance of pre-reading as part of your reading process for this second part of the assignment, I want you to submit at least a 150 words of Pre-Reading. Feel free to steal some of what you wrote for why you chose this book in discussion. Some questions you might ask yourself as you are working through the process might be: • Have you heard something about the text or its author? • Has a classmate or a friend told you something about it? • Have you seen a film or TV show related to it? • What are your preconceptions of the text? • Have you already read it before? If so, what was your experience with it? • What does the title lead you to expect? • What do you think the title means before knowing anything of the work itself? • What is its genre? • What expectations do you have based on the cover? (Color, font, images) • Have you read something similar or on the same topic before? • How much do you know about the topic already? For those of you who are unfamiliar or would like to refresh your understanding of genre, this is fantastic video that breaks down what it is. Submission: To submit, please attach your saved files file and click Submit. You can also submit as a text submission. Step 1 needs to include chapters/pages numbers/time for Weeks 3-9 of our class. Step 2 needs to be at least 150 words long. Happy Writing!

When I choose this novel, I saw that it was the modern retelling of Jane Eyre which got me excited and I decided to start reading this novel. I have seen the movie Jane Eyre but nothing else on this book.
